How the scan alarm works
- 01
Save a code
Scan a barcode or QR code once, name it, and attach it to an alarm.
- 02
Put it away from bed
Choose a real object or printed code in the bathroom, kitchen, or hallway.
- 03
Scan it to finish
When Ember rings, reach the saved code and scan it before the wake-up ends.
Why a scan alarm changes the dismissal
A normal alarm asks for one half-awake tap. A QR code alarm moves the final action away from the phone. The useful part is not the code itself; it is deciding where the code lives before going to sleep.
Ember keeps the wake-up session active after the audible alarm is silenced. The saved scan remains unfinished until the matching physical code is in front of the camera.
Use a barcode or a QR code
A barcode already printed on toothpaste, coffee, or another fixed object works well. A printed QR code gives you full control over the location. Save several codes and name them so different alarms can lead to different places.
A photograph of the saved code does not pass the check. The point is to reach the physical code, not to keep a shortcut beside the bed.
Built for a real alarm routine
The scan is one wake-up check, not a separate timer. It can stand alone or sit inside an ordered routine with math, a puzzle, vocabulary, blackjack, or a walking target.
- Set a different code for each alarm.
- Core alarms and scanning work without an account.
- Camera access is used only when a scan check needs it.
- An optional emergency passkey can end the wake-up when necessary.
